The Visiting Professor Program is offered to provide scholars at our affiliated institutions with an opportunity to further delve into their specialized research topics and to teach in Japan.
In return for teaching one course, a visiting professor is provided with free furnished on-campus housing and utility expenses. Normally, scholars on sabbatical leave take advantage of this program in order to carry out on-site research in Japan.
While it is desirable if the faculty members' main interest or research area is in Japan or Asia, other areas may be accommodated since the teaching opportunities are available in the Asian Studies Program as well as in a special program for Japanese undergraduate students.
Visiting Professors have not only been contributing to broadening the perspectives of our international and Japanese students, but also bringing back with them first-hand observations and research results on Japan and Asia to share with their own students, faculty and staff members. Undoubtedly, the program has become a valuable asset to participating professors' home institutions at the same time that it enriches Kansai Gaidai.
