Dormitory

Kansai Gaidai has four dormitories. Because of their role to provide residents with a cross-cultural learning experience, the dormitories are called, Seminar Houses. Seminar Houses offer a comfortable alternative for students who choose to live among fellow students, who come from very diverse cultural backgrounds.

Students can meet and learn from others whose values and customs are different from their own, but at the same time, they need to make efforts to understand and work cooperatively in order to promote a comfortable dormitory life.

 

Because the dormitories are located right in the middle of a typical Japanese neighborhood, respect for local residents must be paid so as to keep a good relationship and harmony with the local community. Dormitory life can be enriching and rewarding when all students fulfill their responsibilities as individuals for the benefits of residents and community members.

Location:

All four Seminar Houses are located within a 20-minute walk of Kansai Gaidai Nakamiya Campus, 10-minute walk from a supermarket, and a 20-minute walk from the nearest train station.

Facilities:

Seminar House I is two-story, co-ed dormitory accommodating 65 students. An eight tatami-mat Japanese style room is shared by two students; a desk, closet, and futon (bedding) is provided for each resident. Seminar House I also offers a computer room, TV lounges, kitchens and dining rooms, a common shower room on each floor, and a coin-operated laundry. Internet access is available in each room.

 

Seminar House II is four-story co-ed dormitory accommodating 57 students. An eight tatami-mat Japanese style room is shared by two students; a desk, closet, and futon (bedding) is provided for each resident. Seminar House II offers a computer room, TV lounges, a kitchen and dining room, and a common shower room on each floor, and a coin-operated laundry. Internet access is available in each room.

 

Seminar House III is an apartment type dormitory. Each unit accommodates six to eight students. A shared living and dining/kitchen is surrounded by bedrooms, each accommodating two students. This five-story co-ed dormitory housing has a capacity of 92 students. Facilities include a kitchen, shower rooms, a TV, and internet access in each room, and a computer room and coin-operation laundry.

 

Seminar House IV is a three-story co-ed dormitory accommodating 112 students. An eight tatami-mat Japanese style room is shared by two students; a desk, closet and futon (bedding) is provided for each resident. Seminar House IV has a computer room, TV lounges, a kitchen and dining room, and a common shower room on each floor, and coin-operated laundry. Intent access is available in each room.

Dining:

Dormitories do not offer catering services. Students are expected to cook their own meals in the kitchen or eat at university cafeterias or local restaurants. Each student is given a full range of cooking equipment such as cooking utensils, pans, cups, plates, knives, forks, and storage space in the shared refrigerator.

Involvement in Local Community:

Living in the Seminar Houses may offer somewhat limited exposure to Japanese society, compared to what the homestay program can offer. Therefore, Seminar House residents are strongly encouraged to participate in our Home Visit Program, through which students are given the opportunity to visit and interact with a local Japanese family.
