A professor and nineteen students from the University of Arkansas participated in a Kansai Gaidai-sponsored summer seminar.The Asian Studies Program was initiated as a one-year study abroad experience. A liberal arts focused curriculum was designed to meet the diverse expectations of undergraduate students worldwide.The Graduate School, Master’s Program in English Linguistics was established.The Graduate School, Master’s Program in Language and Cultural Studies was added.A Ph.D. program within the Graduate School was established. This program was the very first among national, public, and private foreign language universities in Japan.The Tanimoto Memorial Hall for International Education, also known as the Center for International Education (CIE), was constructed.The Two-year Program at the Mandai campus was relocated to the Hotani district of Hirakata City. The Hotani campus opened the College of International Language and Communication (four-year undergraduate program).The relocation of the Katahoko campus to the current Nakamiya was completed. Greatly expanding educational facilities, this relocation completed Kansai Gaidai’s “New Era Project.”The number of overseas affiliated institutions reached 300.The College of International Professional Development was inaugurated at the Nakamiya campus. A one-year study abroad program during the third year is integrated in its curriculum.The International Communication Center, a hub for various collaborative activities with local and international institutions and organizations, opened.A new Elementary Education Program was added to the College of International Professional Development.The College of Global Communication and Language opened at the Gakkentoshi Campus. A one-semester study abroad program in an English speaking country and also a Chinese speaking country is included in its curriculum.Kansai Gaidai celebrated the 70th anniversary of its foundation. The number of international affiliations reached 380 institutions in 54 countries and regions.The University celebrated the 50th anniversary of the College of Foreign Studies which has led the development of language study in Japan.Kansai Gaidai College (two-year program) celebrates the 65th anniversary of its opening. Gotenyama Campus Global Town opened at the new site.9
