The founder hoped to create an institution that would develop in its students a sense of internationalism. The University has made significant steps forward and has become an institution of 13,000 students. Educational programs include three four-year programs, a two-year college, a graduate school and the Asian Studies Program.The University aims to cultivate individuals who are well equipped with a solid liberal arts foundation as well as language competency to become capable of building bridges between different countries and cultures.International students are invited to join any of these academic divisions by taking courses in English or Japanese.Kansai Gaidai has the following three institutes to enhance research activities. They organize various research related activities throughout the year.The Institute was established in 1972 to support and further advance research on cultural issues. Guest lectures by distin-guished speakers as well as extension lectures open to the public are part of its activities. “The Journal of Intercultural Studies” is regularly published.The mission of the Institute is to conduct research on human rights issues and develop affirmative action plans to protect basic human rights. Activities include offering seminars and workshops, data collection and management, publish-ing journals, etc.The Institute hosts academic conferences, symposiums, and guest lectures in order to support and enhance research about Spanish and Latin-American languages and issues.
