Asian Studies Program hosted an international seminar on“Global Culture and Social Sympathy”

An international seminar was held on Saturday, May 26th, co-organized by Kansai Gaidai’s Asian Studies Program and the Center for Global Culture and Social Sympathy at the University of Seoul.

After a welcoming speech by Professor Stephen Zurcher, Dean of the Asian Studies Program, Prof. Hyun-Chin Lim at Seoul National University gave a keynote speech on the topic of Intercultural understanding between Korea, Japan, and China.

Professor Jonson Porteux, Assistant Professor of Kansai Gaidai, served as discussant during the seminar giving comments and questions for each presentation.

- Prof. Wonho Jang (University of Seoul) and Prof. Moon-Gi Suh
(Soongsil University): “Cultural Dynamics of Social Empathy”

- Prof. Kee-Bom Nahm (University of Seoul) and Prof. Dong-Gen Rui
(Pukyong National University): “A Comparison of the Roles Played by Social
Organizations in Urban Renewing in China and South Korea”

- Prof. Ingyu Oh and Prof. Bonwon Koo (Kansai Gaidai University):
“Japanese Webtoon: Digitalizing and Marketing Manga Online Using South
Korean App Designs”

The whole seminar was funded by the Ministry of Education in Korea under the Social Science Korea research program. Professor Jang and Professor Oh are working closely for the funded project.
