Last month I went to a conference in the south of India, which was a wonderful experience. Every time I go to India, Nepal or Tibet and then come back to Japan, I am impressed by many things, such as:
a) Here in Japan most people are so rich compared with the average Indian, Nepali or tibetan. According to a recent government report, 77% of Indians live on less than 20 rupees (\55) a day, or about \20,000 a year. In Japan, the average income for a man is over \5,000,000 a year.
b) The pace of life in the Indian countryside is very peaceful and relaxed compared with life in Japan, and nobody ever hurries. People's lives are not controlled by clocks, watches and schedules.
c) Religion is much more important for the average, Indian, Nepali or Tibetan than it is for the average Japanese person. People are not shy about talking about God or gods, and you see images of gods and gurus
everywhere.
