Hello friends, this is Tuba from Japan and I am going to introduce our culture of slurping.

In Japan, there's nothing more popular than a simple, quick, and delicious bowl of noodles. Whether it is a quick soba, udon, or a scorching bowl of ramen, these are all go-to-food for Japanese and tourists.

Slurping, a custom that is common in all three of these dishes, is practiced by most Japanese. Though loud slurping is rude overseas, in Japan it is perfectly acceptable to slurp your noodles aloud, in fact the louder the better!

Slurping noodles, in Japan, is considered to be a sign that you are enjoying your meal and in fact also enhances the flavor of the noodles.

By quickly slurping the noodles, the broth or soup with the noodles are also sucked in as you slurp the noodles. Doing so allows you to enhance the flavor.
Please try slurping noodles when you visit Japan!
