Application Procedures

The information below is for Fall 2025 Enrollment.

1. Eligibility

• Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Applicants have graduated or expect to graduate by August 2025 from a degree-granting junior college (associate’s degree program) outside of Japan.
  • Applicants have graduated or expect to graduate by August 2025 from a degree-granting university (bachelor’s degree program) outside of Japan.
  • Applicants have been enrolled for at least two years in a bachelor’s degree program at a degree-granting university outside of Japan and have earned or expect to earn at least 62 credits* by August 2025.
  • Applicants who are judged by the President of the Kansai Gaidai University (KGU) to have equivalent qualifications (eligibility) to those stated above.

    　*Credits will be calculated according to KGU’s credit conversion standards and must count toward the graduation requirements at KGU.

  • Attended a post-secondary institution that uses a grading system other than GPA.
  • Attended more than one post-secondary institution.

  Please visit the WES website to order this evaluation and submit it via the admission system along with your academic transcript(s).
  The WES Basic Package is sufficient for our review process.

• For applicants whose native language is not English, a certificate of TOEFL iBT® Test score of 94, IELTS 7.0, Cambridge 180, Pearson 67 or higher. However, this must be within two years prior to the application deadline.
• Activity Report Form
• Self-introduction video (self-introduction, reason for applying, etc.; maximum of 5 minutes)
• Copy of passport
• Photograph (digital data)

• Please submit the application through the online Application Management System available from December 2^nd, 2024.

9. Procedures for Admitted Students

Successful applicants must follow the procedures provided under this section to officially enroll in the program.

Notes

• Students who have provided false information in relation to their application will be denied admission.
• Students who have been accepted but fail to meet the eligibility requirements by August 2025, will be denied admission.

Immigration Procedures and Visa Information

All the students accepted to the program must apply for a student visa in their home country. To do so, it is necessary to obtain a certificate of eligibility that will enable them to obtain a student visa.
Please note that because the Certificate of Eligibility is valid for only three months from the date of issuance and that it becomes invalid if the landing application is not filed within that period, we are not able to apply for it very far in advance. Thus, you should expect to receive your Certificate of Eligibility within the two-month period before the beginning of the semester.

Kansai Gaidai will make an application for a Certificate of Eligibility as soon as all the necessary application documents are submitted. Please note that it normally takes one to two months for the Ministry to issue the Certificate.

When we receive the Certificate of Eligibility from the Ministry of Justice, we will then forward it to you at the address indicated on your Address Form. You should then take it to the Japanese Consulate nearest your home or university to begin visa application procedures.

You may apply for a student visa directly by appearing in person at the Consulate, in which case you will be requested to fill out the visa application forms and attach two photos. Or, you may elect to go through the procedure by mail, in which case you should first write to the Consulate and obtain a visa application form to be returned by mail.
