IEP | ~Traveling to China on the cloud~Learn about Chinese Culture 云上游中

Oct 23, 2020 (Fri.)

Our local students and students from 5 universities in China hosted a Zoom event to introduce Chinese culture. They held the event twice in September, and about 50 students participated in these Chinese culture events.

At the event, the participants split into five groups based on the hometown areas of the Chinese students – Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Zhejiang, and Suzhou. Chinese students introduced their distinct cultures, accents/dialects, and histories.

Students who shared their culture really enjoyed talking about it, and students who were introduced to Chinese culture also really enjoyed learning something new. Also, Participants all enjoyed getting to know each other. By asking questions in Chinese and sharing study abroad experiences, students became very enthusiastic about learning more. Students from Tianjin introduced the word “倍儿哏儿 (very funny; hilarious)” with the Tianjin accent, a useful word to make everyone relaxed.

A student from Portugal said “It was a great opportunity to learn about Chinese cuisines. I would like to try them!” There will be more events on Chinese culture and language in the coming weeks.
