Cancellation of ASP On-Site program and the subsequent plan for international students

Jan 15, 2021 (Fri.)

On December 28, 2020, the Japanese government once again halted the entry of non-residential foreigners to Japan. In response to this governmental announcement, the University decided to discontinue our efforts to welcome international students for the ASP On-Site program for the Spring 2021 semester.

It was a painful decision for us to make but given the many uncertainties and difficulties caused by the worldwide spread of COVID-19 it was a necessary decision. This cancellation does not mean however the loss of opportunity for students to learn about Asian / Japanese cultures and language for the next semester. In fact, we will once again offer the same or similar courses in an online format so that students from their homes can still take the same number of credit hours from us. As a result, the ASP Home-Based program will have more than 350 students and begin on January 25, 2021. About 50 courses of Japanese language and various content courses (Humanities and Social Science courses) will be offered online during the Spring 2021 semester.
