An emergency short-term student loan program is available to international students who are officially enrolled in the Asian Studies Program at Kansai Gaidai University and cannot complete necessary payments during the orientation week due to late arrival of their scholarships, financial aids, etc., or for other extenuating reasons. Meal allowance recipients (e.g. students with the full-exchange status) and the JASSO scholarship recipients may also take advantage of this loan program as the payment of the meal stipend and the scholarship will not be made until about a month after start of the semester. There is a minimum service charge for a cash loan.

If you are interested in applying for the student loan, please carefully note the following:

Application And Repayment

  • Applications for the student loan may be accepted at student loan sessions during the orientation week. After the orientation week, applications may be accepted at the Center for International Education.
  • You will be required to indicate your repayment plans when you apply. Any application without a repayment plan will not be processed. You will be required to make your loan repayment(s) on or before the indicated repayment date(s).
  • Any student loan has to be repaid within two months from the day of the application (but no later than 10 days before the final exam week of the semester in which the application is made).

Documentation To Verify Your Ability To Repay Your Student Loan

Regardless of your repayment date indicated on your loan application form, if you will not be able to complete the repayment of your student loan before the first business day of the fifth (5th) week of the semester in which the application is made, you will be required to submit to the Center for International Education documentation verifying your ability to repay your student loan. Acceptable forms of documentation are as follows:

  1. If you are planning to use a scholarship or financial aid to repay your student loan at Kansai Gaidai University, you may submit an official letter/notification from the organization providing the scholarship/financial aid to you documenting the following information:
    A
    Indication that you are guaranteed/qualified to receive the scholarship/financial aid;
    B
    Name of the organization;

    Contact information of the organization (including its physical address, phone number, e-mail address, etc.);
    D
    Amount of the scholarship/financial aid; and.
    E
    Schedule of the payment to you.
  2. If you are waiting to receive funds from home, please have an appropriate person in your family, etc., send us a formal letter guaranteeing the repayment of your student loan for you. The letter should include the following information:
    A
    Indication that you are guaranteed/qualified to receive the scholarship/financial aid;

    It is advisable that your guarantor uses registered mail so that you can check the status of shipment as needed. If there is any delay with documentation regarding the status of shipment, it will be considered as neglect of this requirement and breach of the loan agreement.

This requirement is applicable to all international students who are unable to complete their repayments before the first business day of the fifth (5th) week of the semester regardless of the repayment dates that they indicate on their student loan applications. International students are allowed to have an outstanding balance after the first business day of the fifth week of the semester on the condition that the above requirement is fulfilled.

All documentation will be carefully reviewed by university officials. You may be requested to provide additional documentation to the CIE if we judge that more information is necessary to fully evaluate your ability to repay your student loan.
